Openness for non-Automotive Applications
Potential and use cases by some of our AUTOSAR Partners
AUTOSAR Openness for non-Automotive Applications have existed since 2016 not only for applications derived from automotive applications but for all applications that are not in a category ultra-hazardous. The use of AUTOSAR standards for non-automotive applications in a cross-industrial exchange of expertise and reuse of standardized solutions allows the applicants and AUTOSAR partners to benefit from over 20 years of embedded software development with focus on functional safety and cybersecurity.
AUTOSAR hopes to encourage the usage for applications outside the automotive industry and complements the interpretation of “Openness for non-Automotive Applications” with a list of exemplary areas of application that are not seen to be in a category of ultra-hazardous like:
- Mobility infrastructure
- Agricultural machinery
- Maritime Shipping
- Railway
- Urban Mobility
- Industrial Automation
- Building Automation
- Household appliance
- Medical technology
This list with exemplary areas of application is intended to serve as a basis for AUTOSAR partners on their individual case-by-case decisions and cannot relieve applicants from their responsibility to evaluate other relevant legal aspects (e.g. regulatory law, import and export restrictions including military arms control, embargo and foreign trade law, AUTOSAR Development agreement). Please note also that the above stated list is only an exemplary one and by no means complete. The legally binding statements on "Openness for non-Automotive Applications" can be found in the AUTOSAR Development Agreement.
